Laser WPT (Wave Optimized Periodontal Therapy)
The most effective treatment of periodontal pockets with a laser is the - laser new attachment procedure - or alternately, the Laser WPT (Wave Optimized Periodontal Therapy).
In these treatments an Nd:Yag laser is used to gently peel the diseased epithelial lining of the perio pocket away. Second, an Er:Yag laser is used to soften and remove the tartar and plaque from the tooth surface. The root surface is then smoothed with sonic and hand scalers. The bone is stimulated with laser energy from the Er:Yag and lastly the pocket is sealed with a blood clot from the Nd:Yag.
This is all accomplished under local anesthetic similar to a deep cleaning. Healing is virtually painless. Over time the pocket can close and the bone regenerate around the tooth. On deep pockets it may be necessary to repeat the procedure once or twice as the healing progresses as it is also necessary to get periodic cleanings.
